China considers itself to be a near arctic nation. We know that almost all of the blue region above Russia is in form of ice and could only be crossed through special icebreaker ships or through nuclear submarines.

Currently China uses Malacca Strait and Indian ocean to trade with the western countries, but it has a threat of India, if India wants it can easily choke off China’s trade in Indian ocean.

To counter this, with global warming coming into play it could be easy to trade through the arctic ocean for China as they have the required technology to make it happen. This route is known as the Polar Silk Route.

This will give an added advantage to China because it can now encircle Russia. Though Russia and China are momentary allies, it will not go on for a longer time as we know there are no fixed rules, friends and enemies in the game of geopolitics.

The red line represents the Polar Silk Route in the map below.
