KUNAL SHAH’S SECRET TO PRODUCTIVITY & VIEWS ON WHY INDIA HAS A LOW PER CAPITA INCOME

Kunal Shah is an entrepreneur and founder of FreeCharge which is an e-commerce website. He is also the one who built CRED which is a banking application.

According to him, the best way to increase your productivity is to assign certain value to your time. Let’s assume you are an employee in a company with a monthly salary of rupees 50,000 and you work 22 days in a month for 8 hours everyday. Doing the math we know that the value of your 1 hour is rupees 234(approx). In accordance to what Kunal Shah said, you have a certain value for your each hour, so you must do things which are worth rupees 234 in that time. If you feel that you did not do something for which you deserve that amount then you should consider it as a non-productive hour. This gives a better way to track the productivity as we as humans value money way more than time so why not see time in form of money. This is a very good implementation of the quote “Time Is Money”. Productivity does not mean working for many hours, it means to do the justice with your time you spent doing a particular job.

I would really recommend you all to try rating your productivity in this method so that you get a better understanding of what works for you and what does not and I think this will help you prioritize your work better.

Coming to what Kunal Shah thinks is the reason for India’s low per capita income, we must know that a main factor affecting the per capita income is skills. He says that there is not a class divide or anything like that which is being the barrier, the roots of financial divide is due to the skill divide present in our society and our education system contributes to its misery. A person with skills but not money is in a great place than a person with no skills hoping for money. Learning is the key to increase your financial strength and by this he does not mean learning texts in our school curriculum, it is by having interests in such work which require a skill and working on it.

Even your hobbies might require some skill and if you’re good at it, it may become another source of income for you.
